Beryl Cook (British 1916-2008) - David Collett as a smiling Elf seated on a toadstool, oil on board, signed, 25 x 17cm, framed

David Collett was a jazz pianist, originally from Bath but lived most his life is Bristol. He was well known for his work the the Avon Cities Jazz Band, The Dave Collett Trio and had been in Acker Bilk's Paramount Jazz Band in which he wrote and performed a top ten hit in the 1950s called Summer Set. Beryl Cook was a fan and friend and was a frequent attendant at his music gigs. When his 70th birthday approached in 2001 Beryl and Dave's wife Ann hatched a plan for a surprise birthday gift for him. Ann provided Beryl with an old black and white photo of him as a young boy, dressed as an elf, this was used this used to create a unique birthday gift. Dave sadly passed away in June 2018 aged 87.
