December 2013 Sale Report

END OF THE YEAR

The last sale of the old year, 1500 or so lots under the hammer, strong bids both in the room and on the internet concluded another successful auction.

A good quality replica Georgian dining room table raised on three pillars, some 16ft in length, together with a set of twelve chairs and a sideboard manufactured by Arthur Brett of Norwich led the furniture section of the sale with a winning bid of £3,000. This was followed by a good example of a Victorian burr walnut davenport at a £1,000 and a small Victorian walnut and ormolu mounted credenza at £900. An interesting 19th century occasional table, the top inlaid with a multitude of specimen woods, sold at £600.

The Old Town Meeting House, an historic church building in the town, gave up itís contents. First opened some 200 years ago and subsequently re-fitted from time to time, the lots were sold insitu and included pine pews, oak wainscot chair, simple pine benches and other associated effects, all sold and totalled £2,390. The building is to be placed on the market in the New Year.

The jewellery section performed well and included a platinum and square prism diamond set eternity ring at £1,200 and an interesting gilt ring with cornelian integlo showing the profile of a woman at £3,200. A Victorian gold and diamond set locket made £660.

Amongst the silver a George III style silver tea tray manufactured in 1972 and weighing 86 ounces sold at £860, while the best of the clocks, a Victorian walnut bracket clock with eight day striking movement, sold at £440. An interesting 18th century brass wall hanging candle box of cylindrical form made £420. While oil lamps continued to sell well, the thirty lots in this sale totalled £1,645.

So conclude the auctions for another year, the first sale of the New Year will be held on January 21st/22nd with items accepted until January 3rd. These New Year sales are usually slightly smaller, however the general shortage of goods on the market at this time generally forces prices up and is therefore a good time to sell for those that can get organised and we are ready to receive you!

Philip and all members of the staff wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year and thank you for your loyal support through both buying and selling throughout the year and we all look forward to events in the New Year.
