House contents
sales were once common place in this country, today they are rare
events. The first to be held in Gloucestershire this year,
therefore attracted huge interest. Wotton Auction Rooms were
instructed to sell the surplus contents (700 lots) at Daunceys
Mill, Uley on Saturday 23rd June with prospective
buyers attending from all parts of the country for the eclectic
lots on offer ranging from three ships figure heads selling for
£4,600, a pair of early framed tabards at £2,000. Several vintage
shop counters and printers cabinets ranging from £200-£500 each,
vintage petrol pump at £420, Edwardian iron garden canopy at £350,
ten or so bundles of Victorian and Edwardian garden hand tools
totalling £700. A vintage deep sea divers set comprising helmet,
suit, boots, knife and air pump sold for £1,085, two heavy bronze
marine steering gears by MacTaggart Scott & Co sold for £1,180.
Georgian oak longcase clock by Gibson of Newcastle £800, antique
wainscot chair £340, waxed pine dresser £500, fishmongers table
£350, 3 vintage garden tables and 12 chairs £540 and so it
continued, 98% of the sale found new homes.
